Bright Renewables is the UK's first fully community-owned renewable energy asset manager and consultancy — and manager of the UK's largest portfolio of community-owned renewable assets (+80MW). We help local authorities, community energy organisations and place-based partnerships turn clean energy ambitions into delivered assets. As the UK's first fully community-owned asset management company, we manage one of the UK's largest portfolios of community-owned renewable assets, currently comprising around 80MW of operational solar and hydro capacity across 70 sites, held by 11 partner community energy organisations (BenComs and CICs) across England and Wales.

What is the scope of your work?

Bright Renewables works with community benefit societies, local authorities, cooperatives and other not-for-profit organisations that own renewable energy assets, or that need support navigating the sector more broadly. 

Our scope covers the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and business planning through development support and ownership structuring, and on into long-term asset management. Day to day, this means operational and technical asset management such as performance monitoring, contractor and EPC oversight, grid and lease compliance, insurance, and PPA/ESA and warranty management. Alongside this sits our finance and accounting work, covering bookkeeping, management accounts, loan and covenant monitoring, and liaison with appointed financial modellers. We also handle the governance side, from regulatory compliance and company secretarial duties to board support and investor relations, including investor communications and payments. For our members and partners, this adds up to projects that are commercially robust and locally accountable, generating income while strengthening local energy resilience and building community wealth.

Case Studies

Recovering £290,000 in Lost PPA and Feed-in Tariff Income

When a meter failure put one community group's Power Purchase Agreement and Feed-in Tariff income at risk, Bright Renewables stepped in. Drawing on our expertise in electricity market participants, complex metering arrangements and site data management, our team navigated a complicated and sensitive negotiation with a major energy supplier — and recovered more than £290,000 of income that would otherwise have been lost.

It's the kind of outcome we work to make routine, not exceptional. Bright Renewables prioritises ensuring that even the smallest community energy groups have access to the specialist skills and knowledge they need to hold their own in negotiations with counterparties many times their size.

Turning Performance Data into Protected Revenue

Bright Renewables carefully analyses performance and sales data across all of our community clients, cross-referencing payments received against performance, weather and fault data to catch discrepancies before they become losses. Since January 2025, this close scrutiny has led our team to identify and work with offtakers to resolve numerous faults — protecting more than £70,000 that would otherwise have been lost by our community clients.

It's detailed, unglamorous work, but it's exactly this kind of scrutiny that protects our community energy clients and their members in a challenging and constantly evolving energy industry.

Bright Renewables' extensive experience with contractor management, technical reporting and invoice management allows us to deliver tens of thousands of pounds in cost savings for our community clients every year, through rigorous supplier negotiation and invoice challenges.

We're fully committed to ensuring community groups are well represented in discussions with much larger companies, and that they receive the quality of service they need from their contractors to run their renewable energy assets well for the long term.
