Community energy offers local authorities an opportunity to support locally owned clean energy projects, reduce energy bills and fuel poverty, create local jobs and skills, and ensure more of the benefits of the energy transition are retained within communities. With growing national momentum behind community energy, including through GB Energy’s Local Power Plan, there is a significant opportunity for local authorities to work alongside communities to turn local ambition into action.
Join UK100 for a lunchtime learning session launching our new community energy toolkit, Enabling Community Power: What local authorities can do. Developed to help local authorities navigate the complex and evolving community energy landscape, the toolkit acts as the toolkit of toolkits to bring together practical guidance, case studies and resources that help local authorities understand where to start, delivery models and pathways, how to finance such ventures and more.
Whether your local authority is exploring its first community energy project or looking to expand existing work, the session will explore the different roles local authorities can play, from bringing partners together and providing access to local authorities-owned land and buildings, to supporting projects with funding, investment or long-term partnerships.
For elected members and officers in local authorities, this session is an opportunity to discover how the toolkit can help you make the most of community energy and deliver wider benefits for your area. By joining this lunchtime learning, you will:
- Discover practical ways to get started, from identifying local opportunities and community partners to building internal support across local authorities teams.
- Explore different delivery and partnership models, and the roles local authorities can play in enabling community-owned energy projects.
- Understand funding and financing options and how local authorities can help community energy projects progress from an initial idea to delivery.
- Learn from real-world examples and access practical resources to help overcome common challenges and turn local ambition into action.
