The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is developing Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) to guide future energy investment and ensure every region across the UK has the infrastructure it needs for economic growth and decarbonisation. This marks a shift towards whole-system, joined-up planning, integrating electricity and gas distribution and putting local priorities at the centre.

UK100 and NESO are hosting a webinar for council officers to introduce the RESP Methodology Consultation (open until 16 January 2026). The Methodology is, in effect, the instruction manual for how RESPs will operate across the UK and NESO is keen for local government to shape it.

We’ll take you through the consultation, outline the five key components of a Regional Energy Strategic Plan, and set out how to provide your input. There will also be time for questions at the end.
