Community energy is a term that councils may have been hearing for decades, yet due to various policy dead ends its success at council level has been a post code lottery. One based on the right people being in the right place at the right time. That is all set to change, as GB Energy, the Government's new publicly owned energy company with purpose, has committed up to £1bn to support locally-owned clean energy projects. 

GB Energy recognises the distinct and powerful role that local government plays in bringing these projects to life. You are not just cheerleaders of community energy, but enablers, landowners, and anchor institutions. Making you well placed to work together with your communities to build local energy security through community owned and community run clean energy projects. 

Until now the unstable policy landscape has acted as a barrier to progress, leaving local and strategic authorities unsure where to begin in exploring, financing, or supporting this sector. With a supportive policy landscape now in place and new funding on the horizon, now is the time to make it happen so your council and communities can begin benefitting.

This online roundtable, hosted in partnership with Energy Saving Trust and Thrive Renewables, will kickstart your journey by bringing you round the table with community energy experts to explore the different pathways available to make the most of this moment.

Together we will cover:

• The community energy policy landscape: An introduction to GB Energy’s big plans for community energy, and your role within that as local government
• A pathway to progress: Exploring different pathways available to accelerate and fund community energy in your areas, including the different models available and examples of best practice
• Expert surgery support: A chance to seek support from experts in the field on your specific community energy questions and challenges.
